Buda Castle Walk Including Former PM’s Office - Unmatched Access & Stunning Views

Join us and explore the historical seat of Hungarian monarchs and political leaders. Along the walk, we will bring to life the stories of legendary kings and queens, brilliant military commanders, Ottoman pashas, and influential political figures who shaped the fate of not only Buda and Hungary, but often of foreign nations as well. During the first half of the tour, we will explore the Palace District. Toss a coin into the fountain of our great Renaissance ruler, King Matthias, to ensure your return according to legend. Discover how the Royal Palace was built and rebuilt from the Middle Ages to the present day – surviving catastrophes, wars, foreign occupations and the ultimate destruction brought on by the 1944–45 Siege of Budapest. Find out how one of Europe’s most beautiful royal residences was created at the turn of the 20th century under King Franz Joseph, and why his wife, Queen Elisabeth (Sisi), loved staying here so much. Beyond royalty, you’ll hear stories of the Ottomans, German and Soviet soldiers, visionary architects, royal bodyguards and their noble steeds. In the second half of the tour, we step inside the only surviving monastery building in Buda Castle, built by the Carmelite Order in the 18th century. Following the dissolution of the order, these walls served many roles, housing – at different times – a theatre, a casino, storage rooms, and government offices. For years, this beautifully restored landmark, the official seat of the Prime Minister’s Office was closed to the public – a place where the cabinet met weekly and national-level decisions were made. Now the doors of this venue have been opened to visitors! Stroll inside its historic halls in the footsteps of monks, actors, politicians and diplomats. Visit the former office of Viktor Orbán, and step out onto the famous balcony for one of the most breathtaking, panoramic views of the capital!
